Tēnā Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo, Sawat Dee, Cześć, Goeie Dag, សួស្តី, Здравствуйте, hola, 안녕하세요Greetings to our school families.

Today is a big day in SBS history. For the first time, our roll is 400 kids, with still more to start this term. It seems like a big shift from the 178 we finished with, the first year I was Principal. Our area continues to grow so much, and the Mahurangi East has transitioned from a “mostly holiday” area, to “home” for many families. I have always worried, that as we grow, it will be harder to keep what’s special about our school at the forefront of everything we do. But in reality, I hear even more conversations about what we value most here; staying true to our values, knowing our kids, setting our expectations high, and having fun. I often reflect on how lucky I feel to have found new staff who fit so seamlessly into our team, but also bring new ideas and energy. Thanks everyone!

It is certainly feeling a little “Term 4” at the moment. There is lots on. These are exhausting times, but also the times that kids remember – please keep a close eye on the School Diary below, especially Key End of Year Dates, and also reminders via email and social media.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Unity – Kotahitanga

Our value this term is Unity – Kotahitanga. There are many examples of unity in history that demonstrate how people can overcome challenges and achieve great things when they work together. Unity is harmony within a group, it is the opposite of being divided. When we show unity we accept and appreciate others and their contribution. At school, unity looks like working together towards a shared goal. For our students it means that big tasks seem easy when we help each other, and for our whole school and community, unity makes us feel like a family. It creates a sense of belonging and increases wellbeing for all.

School Athletics Day Results

Last week both our Middle and Senior School held their Athletics Days, cleverly squeezed in between some not so nice weather. Congratulations to all our successful athletes below, and good luck for those going on to compete at the Inter School event at the Showgrounds next week.

Book Parade Fun

There has been lots of fun this week with the Book Fair and the Parade this morning. Well done to everyone for some incredibly creative dress ups. Miss Jolliffe took out the staff award as Cruella, closely followed by Mr Chapman and “The Wardrobe”.

Taurima Kapa Haka

A huge ngā mihi nui to all kura in our Kāhui Ako who gathered here at SBS today to share and learn Kapa Haka and to celebrate Te Āo Māori. Kia ora to all the kaiako from SBS, Matakana, Warkworth, Horizon, Leigh, Kaipara Flats and Mahurangi College who collaborated to make this such a successful event for all our tamariki. He waka eke noa, we are all in this together. We especially loved seeing our ex SBS “big kids” coming back to perform as part of Mahurangi College’s Kapa Haka Roopu.
