We are very much looking forward to moving back into our Admin Block and having our Library available again, early next term. Initially please continue to use either the Cabin, or Rātā 1 as your main port of call, and we will let you know when we are ready to go. Thank you for all your patience with the messy area where roofing iron is being stored by the Bus Bay also.

This week I was lucky enough to attend Polyfest for the first time with some of our students. What a fun, fascinating and joyful event to attend! Polyfest is for everyone – it was fascinating to see such such diversity of cultures celebrated. From Kapa Haka to Indian Punjabi performances, Samoan dances to the Highland Fling! There’s the most beautiful range of food, as well as the kids favourite slushies and ice cream. If you don’t have any plans this weekend, it would be a great family outing https://www.asbpolyfest.co.nz/

Finally, a big thank you to all whānau who gave generously of their time and energy to support our kids in events over the past few weeks, (or planned to at the disco tonight). Some special memories have been made.

Ngā mihi nui,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

PTA School Disco – postponed until Friday 9th May

Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions the PTA school disco has had to be postponed until Friday 9th May. Look out for more info early next term, it’s going to be an extra special glow party!

Thank you to our amazing PTA – $14,000 donation! This makes a massive difference.

Schools are notoriously underfunded, and we work really hard to provide the best learning experiences we can, while not asking parents for money (except a contribution towards camps). Our PTA fundraise to support SBS, and donate funds annually in bulk, so that the school can direct the funds where they are most needed. Sometimes this is for fun “extras” for our kids, (such as our bikes, or pump track), but equally this funding goes towards extra teacher aide hours, more reading resources etc. For example, we purchased $5500 worth of new novels for our senior students this term.

With no Quiz Night due to the Community Centre renovations, and our Soccer Zone Day cancelled last year, we were stunned at how much the PTA were able to contribute.

Our PTA also make our days special (eg food at the Walkathon), and create the events, like the disco, that the kids love.

A massive thank you to Anna-Marie Staples and Emily Horner for steering the ship and the many helpers that provide the manpower to make things happen.

SBS Easter Egg Hunt

Next Friday our annual SBS Easter Egg Hunt will take place. All eggs are gathered in house groups into one container, and then shared evenly (about 4/5 small solid eggs per child).

Parents of food allergy students:
If you wish your child to receive something different, please drop it CLEARLY NAMED into the front office cabin before Friday morning, and Miss Ramel will make sure they receive it.

Year 6’s Exhibition Day

What a week it was for our Year 6’s! They have been studying World War 2 & it’s impact on society. Bridgette and Matt White brought their enthusiasm, resources and connections to make this event like nothing our kids have experienced before. “Rosie the Riveter” announced the arrival of the invasion and in drove the replica military vehicles. Memories made and minds blown.
The vehicles on site were:
1942 Willys Jeep
1954 MD Willys Jeep
1942 LRDG Jeep (Mr Chapmans fave!)
1943 GPA Ford Amphibious Jeep
1942 Daimler Dingo Scout Car
1942 LP2 Bren Gun Carrier

Year 2 Visit to Warkworth Museum

Our Year 2 classes – Kauri 2, Kahikatea 1 & 2, had a great time today at the Warkworth Museum. Check out the happy faces . The “dunny” was a real highlight . Thanks to all our whānau that came along to help out.

Polyfest 2025

A group of SBS students went with Miss Ramel and Mr Port to Polyfest 2025. They experienced VR dances of the Pacific, AI interactive stories, amazing performances by High Schools and the best food. We hope this will become an annual event for our Pasifika families.

Toukon Ryu Karate

Classes take place every Tuesday night 6.30 – 7.30PM in the school hall.
My name is Paul Hart and I am the Founder and Chief Instructor of Toukon Ryu Karate New Zealand; affiliated to JKF (Gojukai Japanese Karate Federation). I have been involved with Martial Arts for over 35 years. I have studied Goju Ryu Karate for the past 26 years and I have been teaching a variety of students from the age of 5 through to students in their 80s!
I’m very excited to be bringing karate to the local community.
Karate is the ideal sport/activity for kids and adults alike. In today’s world it is vital that we equip ourselves, and especially our children, with self defence skills. Karate helps promotes self-confidence, balance, fitness, co-ordination, discipline, courtesy, health and wellness, responsibility, and will power. Children may start training in Toukon Ryu Karate as young as 5 years of age.
I hope to see all the students again from last year, but also all Beginners are welcome to come along and have a go. Uniforms are called a ” Gi ” pronounced ” Gee ” – parents will need to purchase one which they can do through Paul if they wish.
All other information regarding joining etc will be supplied at the class or feel free to txt Sensei Paul on 021 297 2431

I look forward to seeing you
