Tēnā Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo, Sawat Dee, Cześć, Goeie Dag, សួស្តី, Здравствуйте, hola. Greetings to our school families.

Two words: crazy and fun! With a touch of anticipation and sadness. The remainder of the school year can really be summed up in these few words.
It’s exciting to be planning end of year celebrations after a few years of missing them. The school is ringing with the sounds of the choir, Kapa Haka and dance music as we prepare to celebrate the year that was, and send our Year 6’s off on the next step of their journey. It certainly seems busier than usual with key events such as swimming and the Quiz Night, that had to be rescheduled due to pandemic restrictions. Please keep a close eye on the school diary below and any notifications that are sent out.
I wanted to acknowledge our amazing PTA for the huge effort they have made in putting together the Harcourts Quiz Night tonight. A fun night for all that makes a massive impact to our school budget in these tight times. In particular, I also wanted to thank the team from Harcourts who have really gone above and beyond in their support providing an auctioneer, staff to help on the night, all our printing and stationery needs and and some yummy food – thanks team, we could not have done it without you!

Ngā mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Well done to everyone who achieved a top three result in our recent athletics events. All place getters will receive a certificate at our Values Assembly next Wednesday 23rd November at 12:15pm (this is normally an internal assembly but parents are welcome to this).

Junior School Run, Jump and Throw Day

Our Junior School enjoyed their own version of athletics yesterday including sack races.

Scholastic Book Fair

What a blast we had last week celebrating our school book fair! Students and staff loved our after lunch reading rotation with teachers meeting new students. Even the office staff were allowed out to read! We started our morning on Wednesday with a bit of a boogie showing off our book character costumes. We greatly appreciate your support of the book fair with our sales of over $6000 earning the school over $2200 worth of new books for the library! What a result, thanks so much!

And special thank you to the wonderful Miss Jolliffe who put a lot of time and effort into organising this fun week for us!

Travelwise Celebration

Last week 7 of our Travelwise monitors, accompanied by Miss Jolliffe and Ms Manning,  attended Auckland Councils Travelwise Celebration at The Cloud on Auckland’s Waterfront.

The day started with a bus ride from Silverdale into the city. There were 60 schools in attendance at The Cloud. The proceedings began with awards for each school. We were hoping for a Silver award, so you can imagine our delight when Snells Beach School was awarded GOLD!

Following lunch, including ice creams for all, we were sent on a scavenger hunt along the waterfront including into the Maritime Museum. We managed to find all the answers before it was time to catch the bus back to Silverdale. Even though the weather was a bit damp, we all had a great day.

Sending our love to the Cole family

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Cole this week, and wanted to send our love to Ainsley, Lucy, Dianne, Hayden and the whole Cole family. Barry has been heavily involved in the Mahurangi East and Warkworth in a number of community organisations, and as a celebrant. He was a big supporter of SBS, and would often step forward with a helping hand whenever the situation arose. His efforts have permanently impacted this community positively, and he embodied many of the values our school holds dear. Rest easy Barry.

Absence Notifications

Every morning our teachers mark the roll and we cross reference this against the absence messages we have received. If we have not heard from you we will send a text message notifying of the absence. This message helps us ensure that all children who are meant to be at school are accounted for however recently we have noticed many parents failing to reply to the message. Please reply to the text with a brief reason for the absence ie. sick, doctor, dentist etc. There are several ways to submit an absence including the school website, phone 09 425-6058 and the Skoolloop app. If you don’t reply, nobody actually knows where your child is: you may assume they are at school, when we think they are home. This has the potential for disaster!

Milk Bottle Lids needed

We would love it if you could collect your milk/cream bottle lids of all colours and bring in to school. These are for use in our literacy program.
