Have your say – Health Education at SBS

You will receive an email today with a link to a survey asking you for your opinion on how we teach the Health Curriculum here at SBS. The questions link directly to the various aspects of Health in the NZ Curriculum. The survey will not take long to complete, and the more we hear your views, the more we can ensure our teaching meets the needs of our community, so please take a moment to have your say. If you do not receive an email link, or would prefer a paper copy, please contact Marissa Bale in the office via phone or mbale@snellsbeach.school.nz

Our Senior School (Year 5 & 6) will commence Pubertal Change (Sexuality Education) lessons at the start of next term. Details regarding this will be sent out in hard copy next week, so keep a look out in bags.

Winter Uniform now in stock!

In spite of the heat over the last few days, we are pretty sure that winter is in fact, still coming. We have school jackets available for $35, which are showerproof, fleece lined, hooded and with a reflective strip (great for walking/riding to school!). Kids can wear any coats to and from school – we just think these ones are a good price! SBS red beanies for cold mornings are $13 and long pants are back in stock for all sizes. Darcy, Levi and Charlie are modelling some of the gear here:

Just a wee reminder, for kids that like to wear tights etc for winter, these should ONLY be in school colours (plain black, white, navy or red). The same applies for undershirts (although our fleeces are really warm & we aren’t sure undershirts are really needed).

Travelwise Week Scooter & Helmet raffle

Every day next week, before and after school, the Travelwise monitors will be selling raffle tickets outside the Library for a Madd Gear Whip Pro Stunt Scooter (suitable for all ages, including parents who want to up their street cred), and helmet. Tickets are $2 each. The draw will take place, live, in next week’s Assembly – exciting!

Researchers and Conservationist Enrichment Group

Mrs Young takes enrichment groups for Year 4 – 6 students with particular strengths and passions. Last week she took our Research and Conservationist Group to Tawharanui and the day went better than they could have even hoped. Not only did they see a wide variety of native birds, but the Takahe in particular came over really close to see them, and then a huge Morepork came and sat in a tree right by the path! The rangers were amazing as well. As usual our kids were fantastic and represented the school so well – the ranger called to personally congratulate the school for the way they conducted themselves.

Middle School Hut Making in Goodall Reserve

We love Play Based Learning. Play contributes to a child’s sense of well-being and can support the development of intrapersonal skills such as self esteem, motivation, resilience, concentration, persistence, and time management. Playbased learning can encourage student agency and often results in deeper levels of student engagement in learning. The Year 3’s and 4’s got into some serious hut making and tree climbing in Goodall Reserve last week. We can’t wait until our trees grow a little bigger!

PTA Disco

Our PTA are organising a school disco FRIDAY 9 April 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the hall.

ONLY current SBS students & pre-school siblings will be admitted. PLEASE NO older siblings or friends. Parents & Caregivers welcome (and encouraged for Years 0 – 2).

Students MUST be picked up from the hall at 7:30pm, they will not be released to walk up to the carpark alone.
