There’s been lots happening lately here at SBS. It’s been nice to feel like we’re back in our groove, with lots of concentrated time for learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our Enrichment Groups for students with specific strengths and talents in Years 4 – 6 are underway with Mrs Young – today the Conservation Group are out at Tawharanui. Winter sport musters are kicking off – we thoroughly enjoyed our Rugby League taster skills sessions this week. There is a Disco coming up soon – this is our first one since September 2019! And, we can have an Easter Egg Hunt again, after Covid robbed us of this last year.

We are printing paper copies of this newsletter this week to pop on the fridge, or wherever you family keep track of things. Stay in touch online or through our app for reminders.

Nga mihi,

Kathryn Ramel

Principal

Welcome to our new students – we hope you enjoy your time at our school!

The Great SBS Easter Egg Hunt 2021 Attn parents of students with food allergies

Next Thursday 1 April (the day before the Easter break), we will be having our annual SBS Easter Egg hunt. In the four houses, students search set areas of the school for hidden chocolate eggs. These are then gathered up and distributed evenly. Each child will get approximately 5 x small solid chocolate eggs. (see pic for brand). If your child has food allergies, and you are happy for them to take part in the hunt, but be given something different to eat, please send alternative food to Miss Ramel in a clearly named bag/container, before next Thursday. We will ensure they receive this.

Signed Emirates Team NZ Shirt

Lottie-Lou and Bobby (& Reggie who has now gone to College) were so proud as their Dad, Dan won the America’s Cup as a member of Emirates Team New Zealand. They have donated to the school a signed shirt, as a fundraiser to support SBS. This is a genuine Emirates Team New Zealand Sail Racing shirt in Size S (retails at NZD$80 but with signatures of the team it is priceless!) Shirt is framed however this is not professional framing.

We think this would look fantastic in a man cave, lady’s lair, sports club, or keen sailor’s house!

This will be auctioned via the school Facebook page, with a starting bid of $100. The auction will close on Friday 9th April at 3pm. For more information or if you are unable to bid via Facebook and would like us to bid on your behalf, please contact Marissa on 09-425 6058 or mbale@snellsbeach.school.nz

All funds raised will go towards new reading books for our growing Junior School.

Please note the Easter Holidays Coming Up – Easter Tuesday

The Easter Holiday period does not fall in the school holidays this year, and because of this, can sometimes catch parents out. The school will be closed for Good Friday, and Easter Monday, but all schools New Zealand also close for Easter Tuesday. This is one of those funny, historic throw backs, to when New Zealand only had 3 school terms (and the same amount of holidays – just distributed differently). Schools closed for Easter Tuesday to allow for a longer “mid term break”. Nowadays, Easter often falls within the school holidays anyway, and Easter Tuesday is overlooked, but when it occurs in term time, Easter Tuesday is still legislation, and as such is followed. We simply work open for an extra day at the end of the year. Kelly Club is available for Easter Tuesday childcare.

PTA Disco

Our PTA are organising a school disco FRIDAY 9 April 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the hall.

ONLY current SBS students & pre-school siblings will be admitted. PLEASE NO older siblings or friends. Parents & Caregivers welcome (and encouraged for Years 0 – 2).

Students MUST be picked up from the hall at 7:30pm, they will not be released to walk up to the carpark alone.

Sausage sizzle & other snacks. GOLD COIN ENTRY PER CHILD

Announcing the return of Mr Morley’s twin brother, internationally famous DJ, Triple M (Mere Male Morley)!

Hockey Muster and “Have a Go” Day
Tuesday 30 March, 3.15 – 4.15 on the school netball courts. If you’re keen to try hockey or plan to play next term, come along for a hit around and meet the Snells hockey people. Bring your hockey gear (mouth guard, shinpads and stick) if you have it. Newbies just turn up and we’ll lend you a stick. Remember to register at MJHC website, under Snells Beach, by the end of March if you want to play.
And parents – don’t be shy, come along too and meet myself and Alexandra. We’re still seeking another coach so the season can go ahead, and will definitely need parent involvement to help out on the sidelines.
