Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej, Hallo. Greetings to our school families.
I have spent a lot of time over the past few weeks talking with and supporting families who are facing various struggles at present. I have been reminded how important a sense of community is, of belonging, and that it is ok to ask for help. We have some wonderful support services in our area, and sometimes it is just a matter of knowing they are there. Drop us a line if you would like more information – happy kids are ready to learn, so emotional needs matter.
To our new families – if you do not receive this newsletter via email, and wish to, please email kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz

Mini Gala 2018
The weather held off just long enough for us to enjoy our Mini Gala last week. This is a special event in our school calendar, where the whole school gets in behind our Year 6 Campers to fundraise, knowing that they will, in turn, be supported when they are Year 6’s. We think it’s invaluable for our Senior Students to learn the value of money (not just Bank of Mum n Dad), to develop as entrepreneurs, and work through the process of establishing their own business on the day. We are just waiting on the last few invoices, but can confidently say we raised over $2000 to be split evenly across all campers – our best effort yet. A huge thank you to all who attended or helped on the day!
Play Based Learning (PBL)
Our New Entrant and Year 1 classes have been doing some research around Play Based Learning and Intentional Teaching – based on the work of Pennie Brownlee. In PBL, learning means the creation of new ideas that help us see the world anew. This develops higher level thought, problem solving skills, co-operation and critical thinking. Check out some pictures of the students experimenting with PBL on a beautiful Snells Beach morning today.
Rippa Rugby Inter School Competition
Our Year 3 – 6 Rippa Rugby enthusiasts did us proud at the inter school tournament, held at the Mahurangi Rugby Club, this week. We scored some excellent results, with the Year 5/6 Girls being the stand out team of the day, with only one narrow loss to a strong Warkworth team. A huge thank you to Mr Morley and Mr Port who co-ordinated the 4 teams on the day, and the parents who kindly offered to coach or manage.
Saturday Morning Netball and Hockey
The Snells Beach Netball and Hockey teams have now begun their Saturday morning competitions. The netballers travel to the Wellsford courts, while the Hockey is held at the turf at Warkworth Showgrounds, next to the rugby club. There is a huge commitment from parents to get these teams up and running, coaching, managing, taxi driving week in and week out – thank you for providing our children with such a great opportunity. A big high five to our Hockey players for scoring a clean sweep last Saturday, with wins for all 3 teams!
