Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej. Greetings to our school families.
I have had a few queries regarding National Standards and the new Minister of Education this week. As it is still such early days, we have yet to have much in the way of detail or confirmation of any changes via the Ministry of Education, and will inform you of these as they happen. The reality is, that from a classroom teacher and student perspective, little will change. We will still work hard to assess exactly where the children are, what this means, and where they need to aim for next, as part of our teaching programmes, and will still communicate this regularly to you. It would be fair to say that schools are feeling optimistic that there may be less focus on multiple assessments, data and putting kids into boxes, and more time to teach and acknowledge individuals.

The Snells Garage Sale Trail and Gala – Saturday 18 Nov 9am – 1pm
We are excited that our annual Garage Sale Trail and School Gala is coming up fast! The PTA have been working hard on organising much of this, and we appreciate the huge effort that they all put in. Each classroom is also organising a stall/activity as their inquiry this term. It is an interesting process to decide on activities that everyone will enjoy, safety, resources, marketing, and of course how much to charge! To run the class activities, we are asking parents to commit to a short time assisting. We guarantee, no experience is necessary :-). The PTA also desperately need parents to help take tickets, and manage things such as food stalls. Please, a small time commitment from you, results in a huge gain for the school. Please consider completing the form in the paper copy of this newsletter that your child will bring home, and returning it to school asap. Alternatively, email your child’s teacher or kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz
Athletics Day
Fantastic to see so many parents and supporters here for the school Athletics Day this week. After looking a wee bit dodgy early on, the weather cleared for a beautiful afternoon. We welcome all parents to a special Values Assembly next Tuesday 7 November at 12:00 to present the Athletics Certificates to placegetters.
Snells Beach School Lucky Jar Mufti Day
Next Friday 10 November
Kahikatea 1 are running a Lucky Jar stand at our up-coming Gala. This is similar to a “Lucky Dip”. A jar (plastic/glass) or similar container is filled with small goodies, and then placed in a bag, so you don’t know what you are getting.
Instead of bringing money for mufti day, children bring a lucky jar.
On Friday bring your lucky jar to your class and Kahikatea 1 will collect all of the lucky jars for their gala day stall.
What’s a lucky jar?
First you need to get a clean jar and take off the label.
Then you fill it up with goodies.
You can put in …. Sweets and lollies, dinosaurs, stickers, hair ties, cars or art and crafts, treats from the $2 shop, Mc Donald toys… You can put in anything that you would like to have yourself. Be creative.
Used toys are fine as long as they are clean and in great new condition.
Thank you, see you there with your lucky jars.
Snells Beach Gala Parent Help Timetable – Saturday 18 Nov 9am – 1pm
(please complete the paper slip sent home today & return to school, OR email your child’s class teacher, or kramel@snellsbeach.school.nz)
Please indicate a time where you can assist either your child’s class activity for the Gala, or the PTA. There will be very little (if any) money handling, as most activities will be paid for by a ticket system. No experience required!
A small time commitment from a lot of people makes a HUGE difference to our school.
