Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej. Greetings to our school families.
It has been apparent to me how many different experiences are available to our children this term. Opportunities to shine in a variety of different areas, both academic, sporting and in the Arts. Alongside those that shine are those that set themselves goals to overcome challenges – to finish Cross Country, to audition for the Talent Show even though you are nervous, to get wet, muddy and work hard in the garden. As I supervised the senior students sitting the ICAS Maths test this week, I reflected on how managing nerves is such a big component of the wide variety of challenges our children face. One of the greatest gifts we can give them is to allow them to feel nervous, to feel challenged, to doubt themselves, because only by working their way through those feelings will they develop resilience from within that is so essential as we go through life. Our kids have been resilient this week. I’m proud that we haven’t wrapped them in cotton wool, but we have encouraged them, and supported them. One of the greatest gifts we can offer our children is to walk alongside, or even slightly behind, but not walk ahead and clear the way.
Nga mihi,
Kathryn Ramel
Principal

Cross Country 2017
What a day we had last Friday! Cross Country is a chance for our competitive athletes to compete, and for others to meet personal goals and challenges. It was a true blue winter event, with runners battling both mud, and at times, rain. We were proud of the way our school supported one another, celebrating success in whatever form that took. There are some wonderful photos from Little Doves Photography on our Facebook page – check them out if you haven’t had time.
Cross Country Certificates
These will be presented to the top 5 runners in each race at our Values Assembly next Thursday 24 August at 12:15 in the hall. Our Values Assembly is like our “family meeting”, and is normally school only, but we welcome parents to attend to see the certificate presentation.

Kahikatea 2 – World Famous in Rodney
Did you hear students from Kahikatea 2 on Times FM this morning? Brent & Lance dropped by yesterday to gather some messages of support from the students for the All Blacks before this weeks test. They also dropped off boxes of beautiful fresh apples. There is a neat little video on our Facebook page that is well worth checking out.
Puriri 2 – Trees for Survival
Soon after planting this year’s crop of Trees for Survival Trees at Solways deer farm, Puriri 2 got their hands dirty once again this week, preparing the next crop of seedling for replanting. So powerful for children to be involved with every step of the process.
