Tena Koutou, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Namaste, Ni sa bula, Noaia’e mauri, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, An Nyung Ha Sai Yo, Nay Ho, Hej. Greetings to our school families.
Welcome to all our new families! We do not usually do a full print of our newsletter – if you did not receive an email version of this, and are able to, please email us at admin@snellsbeach.school.nz & request to be added to our database. Alternatively, our newsletter is linked to our school Facebook page – search Snells Beach School, and look for our school logo.
It seems many of us were struck down with illness over the holiday period. While it’s slightly unnerving to note that August starts next week, I think we are all looking forward to Spring being just around the corner, and hopefully the end of the winter cold season!
Huge thank you to Tanja Dove from Little Doves photography for my new & improved “mugshot”, taken at the recent Mahurangi CoL gathering. We have a great selection of small businesses in our community, many of whom showed generous support at our recent quiz night. Support local, support our community and families.
Nga mihi,
Kathryn Ramel
Principal

PTA Quiz Night and Auction
Wow – what a fantastic night! Our amazing PTA have announced the total raised from our Quiz Night held at the end of last term. It was $12,378!
This was a fun night, that really brought the community together, and we were humbled by your support. We are blown away by the outcome, and so thankful for all the hard work our PTA put in behind the scenes. The staff have promised to greatly improve their costumes in future & Mr Morley has confirmed that his 20 press-ups this year were merely a warm-up for next year’s event!
We must acknowledge the many local businesses that supported us, in particular Steffan and the team from Bayleys Real Estate, New World Warkworth, Julian from the Mahu City Express, and the Mahue family from Snells Beach Liquorland.
Mahurangi Community of Learning/Kahui Ako
Many thanks for all your support, when schools in our area closed early last Monday, to allow teachers to meet and develop a shared understanding of the progress made so far in establishing the Mahurangi CoL. Our teachers joined staff from Mahurangi College, Warkworth, Matakana, Horizon, Leigh, Pakiri and Kaipara Flats Schools, and it was a worthwhile time of meeting, sharing, and forming plans for the future.
Need a cheap replacement school fleece?
We have been absolutely inundated with un-named school fleeces in our lost property. Most have been there for over a term, and we would like to pack them off to new homes! We are cautious about not creating the situation of “help yourself” to the lost property, and instead will be selling these off for $10 each. Most are in excellent condition, some “as new”, but all need a wash. All proceeds from this sale will go towards buying new polypro for our camp supplies. Please, please make sure any fleeces purchased are named before they return to school – note vivid marker washes out quite quickly. See the school office for details.
School jackets – now in stock
We couldn’t resist using this photo of two of our past students Jessie & Sammie – we miss you girls! SBS jackets are now in stock via the uniform shop. They are waterproof with tuck-away hood, and fleece lined, so perfect for changeable mornings. There is also a reflector strip across the back – handy for those who walk, cycle or scooter to school.
Snells Beach’s Got Talent
Term 3 always has a heavy Performing Arts focus here at school. We loved every second of our “History Rocks!” production last year, but productions are a huge undertaking, and we will continue to do these every second year. Instead, this term, we are offering students the opportunity to perform in a showcase event in week 10. We are looking for magicians (& unique talents), gymnasts, singers, dancers and instrumentalists of all ages. While this is not a competition event, performers will have to be selected to progress past auditions held during the following lunchtimes:
- Tues 15.8 Magicians (& other special talents)
- Thurs 17.8 Instrumentalists
- Mon 21.8 Dancers (years 1 – 3)
- Thurs 24.8 Dancers (years 4-6)
- Mon 28.8 Singers (years 1-3)
- Thurs 31.8 Singers (years 4-6)
- Mon 4.9 Gymnasts
Audition timetables will be placed in all classes, plus library & hall windows to remind students.
Congratulations to our hockey players
Our Snells Beach Senior Saturday morning Hockey team have had 4 players put forward to participate in the North Harbour Rep trials, on Sunday 6 August. Huge congratulations, and good luck to Cooper Steen, Dakota Corringham, Jacob White, Kezia Gleeson. We wish you all the best!
Jamie from Kahikatea 2 has lost his shark tooth that he brought to school – have you seen it?
The Tough Stuff – Parent Presentation
A presentation we recommend EVERY parent attends..…
Next Tuesday 1 August at 7pm in our school hall, Kylie Ryan from “The Tough Stuff” will be presenting an evening that we recommend parents of ALL students attend. Kylie presented to our staff earlier this term, and we can safely say that it was one of the most beneficial afternoons of Professional Development we have had. She will provide you with some practical ideas around handling those “tough” questions all kids ask, as well as some pointers for keeping your child safe.
Kylie Ryan, the founder of The Tough Stuff has over 20 years clinical and training experience in mental health and sexual health – with specific expertise in prevention of suicide, sexual violence, and drug and alcohol related harm. She has developed over 20 primary prevention programmes across the spectrum of mental health and sexual health issues, and trained over 30000 young people and 15000 professionals. She is currently the Wellbeing Educator at The University of Auckland working on the prevention of such issues for over 35000 students, and training staff University wide.
When: Tuesday 1 August at 7pm
Where: school hall
Cost: $5 per family (or gold coin donation – cost should not prevent you attending). Adults only please!
Guitar Lessons
Dianne Morgan takes guitar lessons in Nikau 2 on a Wednesday afternoon. The 3:15pm guitar class is for 30 minutes at $5 per class and is for 5-8 year olds. The 3:45 pm guitar class is for 45 minutes at $7.50 a class and is for the 9-12 year olds. There is also room in the intermediate class, for students who already know the main chords. That class is also 45 mins long, costs $7.50 and is from 4:30pm onwards for any age student, as it is based on experience.
