Today, 28 November 2013, students from the Middle School at Snells Beach worked at potting on the young tree seedlings they are growing at the school.
The school is taking an active role in regenerating areas to prevent erosion in the local area. The children grow the seeds in the propagation unit in the school grounds; pot the young trees on and then when they are ready they go out to local places that require help to prevent erosion and plant the trees.
This year they planted flax, tea trees, cabbage trees and manuka trees at a farm in Matakana. The students love this area of their educational program. Patrick Yorke a Year 4 student said, ” The best part of it is helping the plants grow.”
